ad 1. the surgery, if planned to be done, should be performed soon in order to avoid former worsening of the condition, perhaps within the next 6 weeks

ad.2. the period of stay is hard to foresee, probably about 2 weeks, but in case of difficulties or complications this can be significantly longer. The costs depend on what has to be done, the length of stay, and the level of difficulty. If Martin comes as a regular patient, there are no additional costs to the DRG (Diagnose related group) (additional cost for one accompanying person in the hospital about 55 € per day), as a private patient of the chiefs, additional costs for all anesthesia, operation, radiology etc. will occurr, which can be more than the DRG itself.. However the DRG will be between 10.000 and 15.000 €, and normally, about at least 10.000 € have to be transmitted to the Administration of the University Clinic in advance.

ad. 3. we have to make sure that the administration agrees to treat the patient, and that the financial aspects are secure, I do not know about other documents, unless the Bulgarian health insurance will cover parts of the amount, but as a doctor, I am not well informed about the administration affairs.

Dear Doz.Clusmann,

I would like to thank you very much for your responsiveness, your time and efforts as well as for the understanding. I also thank you for the beam of hope you are giving me.

If I have understood properly, you could help us by removing the greater part of the tumor. So let me describe the current Martin’s health status. He cannot walk again bacause of his worsened paralysis. What is more worrying for me, is that sometimes he vomits. Presently we are administering a 10-day course of treatment with Dexamethazon 4 mg intramuscularly, which makes him feel better.

I would like to ask you a few questions:

1. Having in mind the child’s current status, in what period of time should the surgical treatment be performed?

2. What is the period of hospital stay in your clinic and what are prices for the stay and the operation itself?

3. What are the necessary documents which we have to prepare for his smooth admission to your hospital?

We need to know the exact total cost for the treatment because it is certain that our family budget cannot afford it and we will have to raise additional funding from other resources.
