Gabriella Alexandrova is 2 years old and suffers from a serious illness- Bilateral Nephroblastoma V clinical phase.
After 9 months chemotherapy, which was meant to reduce the tumours to the highest degree, on 11th April Gabi left for an organsaving operation in University Hospital Münster, Germany. Unfortunately, when the child entered the hospital the doctors ascertained that Gabi still wasn't ready to undergo the operation- the tumours hadn't been influenced enough and the chemotherapy must proceed there. Meanwhile trying to stop the aggressive growth of cancer cells the specialists in Münster did a complicated and risky medical procedure by means of catheterization in order to stop blood flowing into the tumours. The manipulation lasted 6 hours and was successful. Though, as a security, it was done once again.
Only after it, on 11th August, an operation for removing the tumours from the left kidney was done. The surgeons managed to preserve 70 % kidney mass which was extremely important for the child so that it would have a chance for a full-value way of living.
The fight for Gabi's life continues. The doctors postponed several times the dates planned for removing the right kidney thus making efforts to preserve at least a part of it with the help of chemotherapy. The date last fixed was 13th October. Due to the complicated condition of the child the preliminary offer of 20 000 EUR has long been exceeded.
The special courses of pre-operational chemotherapy as well as the planned post-operational one, the double experimental catheterization, the second operation and the temporary chemodialysis which the child must undergo until the left kidney undertakes the functions of both kidneys, raised the cost of the treatment too much.The present offer amounts to 125 000 EUR. A sum which is beyond the parents' strength. It is unachievable for each of us separately too.
But faced with the heart-piercing will to fight of a two-year-old girl and the inflexible efforts of an enormous team of physicians aiming to save at any cost the child's life this sum seems not that unachievable.
Because we are confident that for us together there are no unachievable things.
