And Svetlyo would so much like to live ...
петък, 16 февруари 2007

Svetlozar Asenov Cholakov is a wonderful boy that fills everyone around him with admiration. Already as a toddler he is very loving and quick to win the hearts of people. Until October, 15th, Svetlozar’s life was just the life of any other kid – happy and filled with lots of love and games.

On September, 15th was Svetlozar’s first day at school. That made him very happy, he couldn’t restrain his curiosity. Two weeks after the schoolyear had begun, however, he started getting fits of high fever. He fell ill. The six-year-old had to fight with debillitating pain in his bones. He was given strong antibiotica, but they couldn’t improve his condition. Some tests were made, which made it clear that he has got one of the worst diseases there is – leukemia. The exact diagnosis is Philadelphiachromosome-positive lymphoblastic leukemia – 190. That’s one of the most serious forms of leukemia.

This was a heavy shock for his family, an absolute tragedy. All friends and relatives are depressed with the terrible news. The life of a wonderful little child seems to be coming to an end. He’s never played enough, never made enough mischief, never had enough scratches on his knees from falling off his bike.

He has to remain in hospital. Chemotherapy starts. It’s long and very difficult, accompanied by many side effects. His mother Vili and his Father Asen are going through hell. They celebrated Christmas around his hospital bed and New Year – in intensive care. Life suddenly has other dimensions for Svetlyo and his parents. There’s nothing in the world that could bring them joy.

And Svetlyo would so much like to live …

Departure for Israel
вторник, 13 февруари 2007

Dari and her parents are ready to leave for Israel.

Their passes and their visas are ready , the airtickets were kindly made available by our national airline. If everything's all right with the child, they are scheduled to leave on February, 18th, at 22:50 hrs from Sofia Airport. In Tel Aviv they will be met and transported to Hadassah Ein-Karem in Jerusalem.

It's an established practice of the clinic to avoid keeping the child in hospital environment as long as the tests and the donor search are taking place. That's why, Dari will stay in the hotel on on the hospital grounds . Here you can find the  offer from the hotel for a one-month stay.

The girl will be treated by Professor Shimon Slavin and his team. The offer for treatment that the Professor made and we're showing here for you, is not only the most reasonable of all offers we received from all over the world, but it also included a 10% rebate - a friendly gesture of the clinic for patients from Bulgaria.

The offer comprises a 6-month treatment, but according to reports from parents who have their children treated in this clinic, we have to be prepared for a longer stay  – maybe around a year, and it may well take up to two years for a final recovery.  The disease is hard to control and is often accompanied by a number of complications, up to and including a second transplantation. Thanks to all of you we are now financially in a position to meet any extra expenditures, should they occur.

The rest is just a matter of good luck, and that's what we wish to Bulgaria's little sweetheart!

We will keep you regularly informed about her condition and the progress of the treatment.

Dear friends of Dari,
четвъртък, 08 февруари 2007

Dear friends! We are happy to inform you that it's a matter of only a few days until we gather the originally announced amount of 600 000 leva for Dari's treatment! We are intensively communicating with Prof. Shimon Slavin from the clinic Hadassah Ein-Karem in Israel. For the time being, the Professor declared he and his team are ready to receive the child and perform the transplantation with stem cells from an external donor. An offer for the costs of the treatment is being prepared. It will include the search for a donor, the transplantation and the post-operative treatment for a period of six months. We are still awaiting info about the estimated prices for accomodation, subsistence and other accompanying costs for the family's stay in Israel. As soon as Dora and Rosen receive the official offer, we will publish it here. In addition to that, we are in touch with clinics in Germany and the USA in order to give us a chance to send Dari without delay elsewhere if the clinic in Israel for some reason declines to treat her. As soon as the amount we aim to collect becomes a fact, we will announce the official end of the campaign. This website will continue to inform you about everything related to Dari, but the active donation campaign will be stopped. In case there is some money left after Dari's successful treatment, it will be donated to other children in need.

Many thanks to all donators for their charitable generosity!
